Erika Roux and La Révolution est en Marche – book launch & brunch
LE GALION EN MODE RÉVOLUTION
21st March 2026, 12:00–14:00
WET, Hillevliet 90, Rotterdam (3rd floor – please see below for access info)
WET is excited to host the book launch LE GALION EN MODE RÉVOLUTION: A Story of Media and Territorial Resistance Against the Erasure of the Banlieues, a publication edited by the artist, filmmaker and WET member Erika Roux made in collaboration with the grassroots organisation La Révolution est en marche (LREEM) and published by Building Fictions.
The publication, which represents the continuation of a long term collaboration between the artist Erika Roux and LREEM, centers on a pivotal struggle led by the organisation to preserve the Galion, a significant community building in Aulnay-sous-Bois in the Parisian banlieue. Drawing on cellphone footage shared by LREEM, the publication retells the collective’s struggle while critically engaging with issues of gentrification, the neo-colonial dimensions of urban planning in France, and LREEM’s efforts to reclaim agency over their territory and representation through social media.
We invite you to come for a brunch and a presentation by Erika Roux, Hadama Traoré (co-founder of La Révolution est en Marche) and Cosimo Lisi.
Erika Roux is a visual artist and filmmaker based in the Netherlands. Her practice spans video works, films, multichannel installations, and publications. Working intuitively and experimentally, she adopts a DIY approach to cinematic tradition, moving fluidly between fiction, documentary, and the spaces in between. Embracing the collaborative nature of filmmaking, she investigates how intimacy intersects with political structures, with personal experiences often serving as a departure point for her narrative frameworks. Besides her artistic practice, she currently co-runs WET, a video art collective and project space based in Rotterdam.
Cosimo Lisi holds a doctorate in aesthetics and urban studies. He is also a lecturer in the Department of Visual Arts at the University of Paris 8. His research focuses on neocolonialism, urban transformations, and artistic practices in urban environments. He is the author of a doctoral dissertation entitled Paris and the Colonial Origins of the Contemporary City: Primitive Accumulation, Production of Space, Artistic Practices, and Subjectivity Production (19th and 20th Centuries), defended on January 28, 2022, at Université Paris 8. In 2024, he published Paris, Colonial Capital: Cartographic Violence of Abstract Space
with Éterotopia France.
La Révolution est en marche is a grassroots organisation born in the context of French banlieue, in Aulnay-sous-Bois. Structured around self-organisation, auto-representation and local specificities, the organisation reclaims political and social agency and questions the meaning of citizenship and politics today.
Building Fictions (BF) is an Amsterdam-based publishing imprint founded by the artist and graphic designer Rudy Guedj that sets out to explore ‘building’ as a methodology, with the intent to highlight the potential of storytelling within practices at the intersection of art, design, architecture, literature. Not limited by the first definition of a building as a space, BF is interested in collaboration as an assembling, layering process. While investigating fictional strategies and their potential within artistic production, BF wants to find out where those strategies are at play in the context of real constructions, could those be made of concrete or be more ephemeral, metaphorical, thus anchoring the effects of fictions within the real world.
